The Rangers participated in their first tournament of the 2023-24 season on Saturday, as the Blue and Gold placed 15th at the annual showcase held at Arlington High School.
Senior
Oliver Collins led the way for the Blue and Gold with a third-place finish in the 157-pound division. Collins tore through his bracket, going 4-0 after dropping his championship quarterfinal match and ended the tournament with a 5-1 record. Collins scored four pin falls and won his consolation semifinal with a 11-2 major decision over Julian Martinez from R.L. Turner. Sophomore Kingston Stevens was the team's second-highest scorer with 13 points, placing fourth in the 106-pound division. Stephens fought his way into the championship semifinal with a hard-fought, 18-17 decision over Julian Ortiz Garcia from R.L. Turner.
In the 150-pound division, senior
Pablo Lopez secured a trio of victories to earn 10 points for the Rangers. Sophomore
Luke Bloodworth won two matches to score for the Rangers, while seniors
Nicholas Westerheide and
Spencer Broussard each won a match to add to the team scoring total.
In the junior varsity division, the Rangers took home a slew of medals, highlighted by first place finishes for sophomore
Trevor Leap and freshman
Mike McCoy. In addition to the two gold medalists, second-place finishes were secured by senior Nathan Salvia, sophomore
Harry Dow and sophomore
Bennett McPhaul.
The Rangers will return to action on Wednesday, November 15 against Woodrow Wilson and Bryan Adams. First bout is set for 6 p.m., and the match will take place at Woodrow Wilson H.S.
