The Rangers wrapped the 2023 portion of their schedule with a sixth place finish at the 55th Annual Lone Star Christmas Open, hosted on December 15-16 by St. Mark's School of Texas.
Two Rangers earned gold medals at the event as senior
Oliver Collins won the 157-pound division with three victories. After earning a bye into the quarterfinal, Collins pinned Rockwall's Bryce Vernotico in the second period and then scored a pin fall over Airen McCoy of Tuscaloosa County to fight his way into the final. In the championship match, Collins beat the buzzer to pin Salado's Zachary Manthie at the end of the first period to clinch the win.
Sophomore
Luke Bloodworth won the 190-pound bracket, earning three victories of his own to score 24 points for the Rangers in the team standings. Bloodworth followed a bye and earned a second period pin over Salado's Lincoln Hosfeld to earn a spot in the semifinal. The sophomore pinned Daniel Conway of Frisco Panther Creek to earn a spot in the final, where Bloodworth edged Paul Miranda Torres from Carrollton Creekview with a 4-3 decision to earn the gold medal.
Sophomore
Kingston Stephens finished second at 106 pounds, earning his first two wins of tournament play with pin falls over Austin Xaxon (Newman Smith) and Parrish Chambers (Evangel Christian) before dropping a 10-8 decision in the final. Sophomore
Parker Sherman finished fourth at 2315 pounds, winning his quarterfinal match with a pin before earning a spot in the third-place match with a first period pin in the consolation semifinal. Sophomore
Alex Shomin earned a win, senior
Pablo Lopez picked up three victories before bowing out in the consolation semifinals, sophomore
Trevor Leap earned three wins of his own and senior
Dolen Hedrick secured a pair of victories.
Jesuit Dallas will break for the holiday season before returning to the mat for a dual meet against Byron Nelson on Wednesday, January 3. The first match is scheduled for 6 p.m. as the Rangers will begin the 2024 portion of their schedule against the Bobcats.
