2/4/2023 4:38:00 PM

Hundreds of rowers representing dozens of clubs both in Texas and out of state descended upon the Terry Center on Saturday afternoon for the annual Southwest Ergometer Amateur Tournament (S.W.E.A.T.) Regatta at Jesuit Dallas. The Rangers picked up a pair of event victories and eight top-five finishers to jump-start their spring 2023 season in the annual indoor showcase.

Freshman Walker Bowman and sophomore Andrew Wilkes sparked the Rangers out of the gate with a 1-2 finish in the men's junior coxswain 1x event. Bowman scored the win with a time of 4:15.3, besting the field by over two seconds. The Rangers' top two finishers, which included a 4:17.2 from Wilkes, bested the remainder of the field by nearly three seconds.

Freshman Stavy Gonzalez secured Jesuit's second win of the event, clocking a 7:38.4 in the freshman 1x to best a second-place finisher from Dallas United Crew by 0.6 seconds. Freshmen London Spoor (7:43.5) and Aidan Hernandez (7:59.9) finished third and fourth, respectively. Ranger freshman Colin Salm secured an additional top-five finish for the Jesuit first year contingent, scoring a second place finish in the lightweight 1x with a 7:22.3. Junior Dawson Zavala raced his way to a silver medal in the junior lightweight 1x with a 7:14.2, and was followed by sophomore Matthew Firley, who finished third with a 7:24.3.

Jesuit's spring season will lead the Rangers back to the water for the first time in 2023 on Feb. 25-26, when the Rangers are scheduled to compete in the Heart of Texas Regatta in Austin, Texas.
