William Savarese set a new school record in the 200 free to highlight Jesuit's sweep of Frisco Wakeland and Frisco Heritage on Thursday at The Gull. The Rangers defeated Wakeland, 126-54 while scoring a 140-40 win over Frisco Heritage.
Savarese's 1:37.94 in the 200 free broke a 16-year old record, besting the previous mark of 1:38.11, set by Jesuit Dallas Sports Hall of Famer Matt Thompson '09 in 2008. Savarese nearly set a second school record on the evening, winning the 100 breast in 56.44, missing the record of 56.18 set by Brendan Feehery '16 in 2016. The University of Michigan commit also participated in Jesuit's victorious 200 medley relay team, aiding in a 1:36.64 total relay time that included
Jonah Ruhl,
Luke Lary and
Sam Kennington, along with a 400 free relay that clocked a 3:10.65, which also included Ruhl,
Sebastian Suwanda and Lary.
Ruhl secured a pair of victories, winning the 200 IM (1:54.43) and the 100 back (53.42). Lary would tack on two wins of his own, capturing the 50 free (22.06) and the 100 fly (52.38). Suwanda won the 500 free (5:00.60) and
Trey Smith opened the day with a win in the one-meter dive event (154.10).
Jesuit Dallas finishes the regular season with an unblemished, 10-0 record with the sweep of Heritage and Wakeland, and will next head into postseason competition. The Rangers will begin their postseason run at the District 7-6A Championship, set for Saturday, January 27 at the Alfred J. Loos Stadium in Addison, Texas. The event will begin with the diving competition at 10 a.m., followed by the swimming competition at 2 p.m.
