Jesuit Blanks Nimitz For Second Straight Shutout

2/14/2024 9:37:00 PM

Junior Clyde Araiza continued to be a major catalyst for the Jesuit Dallas offense, scoring with fourteen minutes remaining in the second half to help propel Jesuit Dallas to a 1-0 win over Nimitz on Feb. 9 at Ranger Stadium.

The Rangers peppered the Vikings throughout the district showdown, taking 19 shots, including seven on target. Sophomore Cooper McGough led the way for Jesuit with four shots on the evening, followed by three shots from juniors Noah McGough, Octavio Monjaras and Mario Zamora alongside two attempts apiece from seniors George Horvat, Matthew Sucato and Araiza.

Nimitz was held to 10 shots during the matchup and only one shot on target, an attempt that was saved by senior goalkeeper Reid McMillan. The Jesuit defense stifled the Vikings en route to the shutout, as Nimitz did not have a corner kick attempt in the game while Jesuit forged seven corner kick opportunities. Jesuit defenders blocked three Viking shot attempts to aid the victorious effort.

Jesuit finishes the first circuit of district play with a 5-1-1 record and will begin the second round of District 7-6A competition on Tuesday, Feb. 13 when the Rangers battle Highland Park. Kick-off is set for 7:15 p.m. at Ranger Stadium.
