A two-run double by sophomore
Charlie Wilson in the bottom of the sixth flipped the script on Thursday's matchup against Anna, turning a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 advantage and eventual victory over the Coyotes at Wright Field. The win improves Jesuit's record to 7-0, continuing the best start for the team under the tutelage of head coach
Brian Jones and providing an electric start to the 2024 Grand Slam Invitational. The Thursday night game against Midlothian Heritage was canceled due to rain.
Sophomore
Braxton Barber went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored from the lead-off position, as six members of the Jesuit lineup collected hits on the day. Senior
Tristen Bird, junior
E'Mar Fleming II and the sophomore tandem of
Taylor Haddock and
James Jorgensen each picked up a hit. Sophomore
Hudson Yobp scored two runs for the Rangers, the first coming on a steal from home in the bottom of the fourth to spot the Blue and Gold a 3-0 lead before scoring the go-ahead run in the sixth. Wilson's critical hit came with one out in the inning.
On the mound, senior
Jaxx Rigelsky pitched a 1-2-3 top of the seventh to earn the save, and junior
Asher Levy earned his second win of the year with a six-inning performance, striking out four batters and allowing two earned runs.
Jesuit will return to action on Friday for the second day of the Grand Slam Invitational. The Rangers will play Keller Fossil Ridge at 1 p.m, followed by a meeting with Frisco Lebanon Trail at 6 p.m.
