Soccer Snags First District Win Against Pearce

1/26/2025 5:48:00 PM

Sophomore Zane Roland's first varsity goal was a huge one for the Blue and Gold, as Roland scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over J.J. Pearce on Friday in Richardson.

In the 66th minute, a deflected shot gave Jesuit Dallas a corner kick opportunity, which senior Max Sabogal landed inside the box. Senior Mario Zamora put the first attempt on goal, a shot that was blocked by the Mustangs goalkeeper but not secured. Roland sent the loose ball into the back of the net for the go-ahead tally to break the scoreless tie.

Seniors Marcelo Elizondo and Jake Chostner combined for the shutout, with Elizondo making five saves in the first half before Chostner made one save in the second half to help Jesuit clinch the shutout win. Roland would take three total shots in the matchup, Zamora would add three attempts of his own, senior Octavio Monjaras attempted three shots and Sabogal took two shots during the bout. Senior Clyde Araiza, senior Leo Hernandez, junior Owen Shorey and junior Cooper McGough also took shots to help the Jesuit Dallas offense keep the pressure on the Mustangs.

Jesuit will return to district play on Tuesday, traveling to Wildcat-Ram Stadium to take on Lake Highlands. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
