Rangers Capture Third Straight Meintser Title in Rematch of 2017 UIL Title Game

Jesuit Dallas won its third straight Jesuit-Meintser Soccer Invitational with a 1-0 win over Sam Houston on Saturday at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers secured the win in the rematch of the 2017 University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A Soccer State Championship game.

Senior Andres Benitez scored the lone goal of the game, sending home a feed from senior Clyde Araiza in the 26th minute to provide the gap needed for the defense to secure its third shutout of the week. The Rangers out-shot the Texans, 10-5, but Sam Houston placed three shots on goal during the match.

Senior Jake Chostner stood tall in goal during the first half, making all three saves for the Rangers before senior Marcelo Elizondo, who made key stops during regulation and penalties in Friday's semifinal win over Bryan Adams, took over in the second half and clinched the win.

Jesuit will return to action on Friday, January 10 as the Blue and Gold faces its first road challenge of the year at Bryan Adams H.S. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
