The Jesuit Dallas soccer program pieced together a statement-making win on Friday, shutting out MacArthur and securing their third district win of the season with an 8-0 triumph at Ranger Stadium.
Â
Junior
Cooper McGough and sophomore
Zane Roland scored two goals apiece while the Rangers' scoring column was completed with tallies by seniors
Andres Benitez,
Clyde Araiza,
Noah McGough and
Hudson Thomas. The Rangers' first two goals of the contest came with heads-up awareness from the forwards, as both Benitez and Araiza found back of the net following MacArthur turnovers.Â
Â
Noah McGough slotted home a header off a corner kick by his younger brother Cooper before Roland converted a header on a loose ball before slotting home a pass from
Cooper McGough for Jesuit's first goal of the second half. McGough would add his first goal moments later on a great run towards the goal before Araiza secured an assist with a great find, putting the ball at McGough's feet just outside the box for Jesuit's seventh goal of the game. The Rangers finished their scoring with a tally late in the second half as senior
Max Sabogal launched a corner kick that was headed by Roland to the waiting Thomas, who deflected the header into the net for Jesuit's final goal of the contest.
Â
The Ranger defense suffocated MacArthur throughout the evening, yielding only one shot to the Cardinals. Senior
Marcelo Elizondo played in goal for a majority of the contest before senior
Julian Polma took over in the second half. Jesuit finished the contest with 13 shots on goal as additional attempts were made by seniors
Marlowe Polma and
Octavio Monjaras.
Â
Jesuit will look to continue its winning streak on Tuesday against Richardson. The Eagles fell to 0-4 in district play on Friday with a 3-1 setback to J.J. Pearce. The Rangers are currently second in the district standings, trailing Irving by one game for the district lead. Kickoff for Tuesday's match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Eagle-Mustang Stadium in Richardson.
