2/1/2025 10:23:00 AM

Led by 106-pound district champion Kingston Stephens, the Jesuit Dallas wrestling team is sending seven grapplers to the University Interscholastic League Region I-6A Championships following a third-place finish at the UIL District 5-6A Championships, held on Thursday at Lake Highlands H.S.

Stephens landed atop the podium after a jaw-dropping run that included three victories. Two of Stephens's wins came via technical fall as the junior bested Heath's Major Dodge, 18-2 in the first round before shutting out Richardson's Jayden Soberano in the final with a 16-0 decision. In his semifinal match, Stephens pinned Rockwall's Brayden Davis in 1:39.

Juniors Dash Llana and Trevor Leap secured silver medals in the 120 and 165 pound divisions, respectively. Llana won his semifinal match with a 14-7 decision over John Murphy from J.J. Pearce while Leap went 2-1 on the day, pinning Adam Hameed (Berkner) and Jackson Multer (Rockwall Heath) in the first period to advance to the final. Senior Jake Daboub battled his way back from a loss in the semifinals with two victories to claim third at 157 pounds, a run capped by a second period pin of Chance Galloway from Lake Highlands.

Junior Alex Shomin logged a third-place finish at 126 pounds with three wins at the event. His run started with a pin of Mesquite's Cesar Rodriguez, and Shomin recovered from a loss in the semifinal with a pin of Richardson's Aaron Habon in the consolation semifinal. Junior Noah Nicosia booked his ticket to regionals with a third place finish at 150-pounds, winning three matches during the event. In the quarterfinal, Nicosia pinned Berkner's Boyce Patterson, earned his way to the third-place match with a pin of Frank Jimenez from Mesquite Horn before clinching the bronze medal by pinning Mohammad Parwami from Lake Highlands.

In the 190-pound division, junior Luke Bloodworth finished fourth with three wins, earning his way to regional. Fellow third year Parker Sherman placed fifth in the 285-pound division, and the duo of senior Owen White and junior Thomas Czuppon capped the team's list of top-five finishers with fifth place finishes at 113 and 132 pounds, respectively.

Jesuit's regional qualifiers will head to Allen for the Region II-6A Championships, which will take place on February 7-8.
