Late Game Heroics Propel Jesuit to Season Sweep of J.J. Pearce

3/25/2025 12:22:00 PM

An eighth-inning, go-ahead home run by junior Charlie Wilson helped propel Jesuit to a hard-fought, 6-4, extra-inning win over J.J. Pearce on Friday night in Richardson. The Rangers sweep the season series from Pearce for the first time since 2021 and enter a huge two-game series against Lake Highlands with an unblemished, 4-0 mark in district play.

Senior Jake Fults provided a jolt for the Rangers in the top of the first inning, launching a three-run home run that spotted Jesuit an early advantage. Junior Brooks Kowal would lead the team offensively with three hits including a double, while Wilson and junior Alex Barr each finished the contest with two hits. Junior Shane Parker scored two runs, including a run on a Pearce wild pitch in the top of the eighth that provided Jesuit with a critical insurance run.

On the mound, senior Sean Cullen secured the win after entering the game in the fifth in relief of senior Brayden Montes, who struck out eight batters over the first four innings. Cullen held Pearce to one run on one hit, striking out four batters.

Jesuit will travel to Lake Highlands H.S. on Tuesday, March 25 to start the season series against the Wildcats before the two-game set concludes at Wright Field on Friday night. The Wildcats swept MacArthur last week after splitting the week-one series against Pearce, blanking the Cardinals in the first matchup between the two teams on March 18 before upending MacArthur, 9-1, on March 21. Both games this week will start at 7:30 p.m.
