DALLAS - The Jesuit Swimming & Diving team used its superior depth to race past the competition to win the Jesuit Invitational at the David A. Segal Family Aquatic Center on Saturday.
Jesuit scored 644 points to hold off Strake Jesuit with 617.5 and Plano Senior High 466.5 for the crown.
The Rangers only won three individual events but still came away with the victory.
Kobus Brewton won the 1-meter diving,
Jonah Ruhl claimed the 100 freestyle and
Drew Shippey touched first in the 100 backstroke.
Jesuit had a number of events where they scored large numbers among their four scoring athletes, including the 100 back, where Shippey was joined in the scoring column by
Michael Tobin,
Peter Hasik and
George Weaver for 65 combined points to just 13 for the Crusaders.
Strake led Jesuit 198-160 after three events but was unable to hold off the Rangers as the meet progressed. Over the next eight events, Jesuit outscored their rivals from Houston 418-349.5 to take command entering the final relay.
Strake set pool records in the 200 medley replay, the 500 free, and 400 free relay.
The Rangers will be in training mode for the UIL District 7-6A Championships, held Friday, Jan. 23 at the Loos Swimming Pool in Addison, Texas. The junior varsity will compete in the District JV meet on Thursday evening at home. Diving will start at 4:15 p.m. and swimming is expected to begin at 5:45 p.m.
