AUSTIN, Texas - The Jesuit Crew program opened the spring racing season this weekend at the Heart of Texas Regatta, competing in a full slate of 1,000-meter races against strong programs from across the region. It was an encouraging first step into the sprint season and the team showed strong depth across multiple entries.
Highlights included a 3rd place finish from the Varsity 4+, which posted the fastest time among Texas crews, along with 3rd place finishes from both the Varsity 8+ and U17 8+. In the novice events, two Jesuit Novice 8+ crews raced well - one earning a gold medal and the other finishing 4th while posting the fastest novice time in the Central Region. The Novice 4+ also placed 2nd.
While the team was not at full strength this weekend, the athletes who raced represented the program well and competed with composure throughout the day. Many Jesuit crews executed strong starts and positioned themselves well early in their races. As the season progresses, the next step will be sharpening the finishing gear. Several boats were well placed through the middle of their races but did not fully capitalize in the closing meters - an area that will continue to be emphasized as sprint racing intensifies over the coming weeks.
"Depth showed this weekend," said Head Coach Eli Brown. "Now the standard is consistency."
We are grateful to the parents, alumni, and supporters who traveled to Austin to support the team. With the spring season now underway, the focus shifts toward continued sprint development as Jesuit prepares for the next phase of racing.
