Jesuit Crew Competes at Central Regional Championships, Demonstrates Depth Across the Region

5/4/2026 1:35:00 PM

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - This past weekend, Jesuit Crew traveled with over 40 athletes to compete at the Central Regional Championships, the premier championship event for programs across Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. In rowing, the regional championship represents a broader and more competitive field than any single state event and serves as a true measure of both speed and depth across multiple states.

Racing conditions shifted throughout the weekend, with variable wind and changing weather patterns impacting each day. Despite inconsistent conditions, Jesuit crews remained composed and competed at a high level across all rounds of racing.

Competition opened Friday with time trials in the Varsity 8+, U17 8+, Varsity 4+, and Double. Jesuit crews approached each entry with intent, and the majority advanced into championship finals, positioning the team well heading into the weekend.

Saturday began with Novice 8+ time trials, where Jesuit entered three crews and advanced all three into the six-boat final, an early indication of the program's depth. Finals racing followed with the Varsity 8+ placing 4th in the Central Region, the U17 8+ securing a 3rd place regional finish, and the Varsity 4+ closing the day with a 3rd place finish. Across all events, Jesuit crews raced with consistency and composure in a highly competitive field.

Sunday's Novice 8+ final became the defining moment of the weekend, with Jesuit accounting for half of the six-boat field. Two of those crews were composed entirely of freshmen, while the third included a mix of freshmen and sophomore athletes who joined within the past year. With approximately 500 meters remaining, the race was stopped due to an on-water incident, forcing a complete re row. After already racing 1500 meters at full effort, the ability to reset and compete again at a high level marked a meaningful step in the development of the group.

In the re row, Jesuit's top freshman eight claimed gold, the mixed freshman sophomore novice crew secured 3rd place, and the third freshman crew finished just behind. All three crews raced with resilience and composure, reflecting a group that has grown together over the course of the season and continues to elevate one another. These athletes have spent months building toward moments like this, and while the results are significant, they represent only a portion of what defines the team. As Head Coach Eli Brown noted, "What you see on race day is built over time. Every athlete in this program contributed to what we saw this weekend. The results matter, but the growth across the team and the way they continue to push one another forward matters more."

Jesuit Crew leaves the Central Regional Championships with strong results across all levels and a clear indication of continued growth in both depth and competitiveness. The team now turns its attention to the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia, where a select group of athletes will represent Jesuit on a national stage.
