DALLAS - The Jesuit Dallas volleyball team saw its quest for a state title come to an end in a tough 3-1 loss to St. Mark's in the semifinals of the Texas Boys High School Volleyball State Championship at Walsh Gym on Friday. The Rangers fell 25-23, 19-25, 25-17, 27-25.
Eli Garz led the Rangers on offense with a match-high 17 kills. As a team, Jesuit (18-5) hit .250 and committed 24 attack errors.
The team split the first two sets before the Lions went up 2-1 with a 25-17 win in the third.
St. Mark's pulled out to an 18-12 lead in the fourth before Jesuit mounted a big comeback. The Rangers used a 9-3 run to tie it at 21. The teams went back and forth for the next six rallies and Jesuit served for match points twice. But both times the Lions won the point and ended the match on a 3-0 run to complete the upset of the No. 1 seed.
Jesuit will face the Wylie-Aggieland Homeschool loser in the Third Place match on Saturday at 1 p.m. St. Mark's advances to the championship match where it will face the Wylie-Aggieland winner at 3 p.m.
