James Jorgensen struck out 12, had two hits and drove in a run in a 3-0 Jesuit Dallas win over Denton Guyer in game one of the UIL Area Round series at The Ballpark at Ranchview on Thursday night.
Jesuit (27-7-2) finished with eight hits and had a base runner in five of the seven innings. Guyer (27-10) managed just three hits - two by Isaac Calderon -and three walks but only had two men reach second base.
Jorgensen (7-0) got better as the game went on, fanning two in each of the final three innings. Over the last five, he totaled 10 strikeouts with just one walk and one hit.
At the plate, his RBI single in the first put the Rangers up 1-0. He doubled to the wall in the left center in the third that set up
Nate Iannariello's ground out that scored Carter Nolad from third for a 2-0 edge. The Rangers pushed the final run across with a sacrifice bunt by
Griffin Civello in the sixth, giving Jorgensen plenty of room to finish off his fifth-consecutive complete game.
Taylor Haddock and
Shane Parker both collected two hits on the night.
Roman Derichsweiler had a single in the third to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.
Barrett Elston (5-1) took the loss for Guyer, finishing with five strikeouts while scattering six hits and three walks.
The teams will meet on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Ranchview High School. Jesuit can clinch its first Area Round title since 2016 with a win.
