Garrett Amy touchdown in the first minute and a Mac Elliot interception (pictured above) in the final minute bookended Jesuit's first win of the year, a 42-35 thriller over Plano East in the home opener at Postell Stadium. From the opening kick, this matchup of former district foes provided the fireworks and high-octane offense that Texas high school football is known for.
On the game's first snap Jesuit (1-1) got creative as quarterback Bo Schneider pitched the ball to wideout Charlie Eikenberg, who then launched a 60-yard touchdown pass to senior Garrett Amy to put Jesuit up 7-0 just 19 seconds into the game. After the Panthers scored twice to take a 14-7 lead, Jesuit's quick-strike offense ignited again, as Schneider found Amy a second time for a 76-yard TD at the end of the first quarter.
Amy finished the game with three touchdowns while notching 160 yards on 5 catches. Schneider also threw for three scores, going 13-for-20 through the air for 199 yards. The two hooked up again late in the game, connecting on a crucial insurance touchdown on fourth down-and-goal from the one-yard line with 3:25 left in regulation.
With the Rangers leading 42-28, Panther running back Jaquawan Douglas (3 TDs, 230 yards) scored just moments later to cut Jesuit's advantage in half. After forcing a punt, Plano East (0-2) threatened again, ultimately setting up a second-and-goal from the one-yard line with 13 seconds to play. Trying to force overtime, quarterback Miklo Smalls attempted a short pass in the end zone, but Jesuit junior defensive back Mac Elliot picked it off to seal the victory for the Rangers.
In addition to Schneider and Amy, the Rangers also received notable performances on the offensive side of the ball from senior Matt Slovak (17 carries, 148 yards, 1 TD), junior Max Loughborough (12 carries, 63 yards, 1 TD), and senior Peter Lynch (4 catches, 59 yards, 1TD).
