Jesuit soccer began district play Tuesday with a convincing 6-0 win over the Sunset Bison at Postell Stadium. Junior
Griffin Scott scored two goals and an assist in the match, and Jesuit's diverse offense kept the Bison guessing all night. Seniors
Ben Sloan,
Alex Koshakji, and
Jacob Su each netted goals, as did junior
Patrick Howell. Â Sophomore
Aldo Quevedo picked up two assists on the night as well. Â The win advances Jesuit to 4-3-1 overall, and 1-0 in District 9-6A play.
Â
In non-district play, Jesuit's balanced offense led to four players sharing the team lead in goals. Howell, along with senior
Juan Ramirez, sophomore
Will Kennard, and sophomore
Aldo Quevedo each scored three goals in non-district games, while juniors
Nathan Escanuela and
William Finn also found the back of the net. Howell impressed at the 51
st annual Meintser Tournament at Postell Stadium in early January, scoring three goals in games against Bishop Lynch and Belton. Quevedo helped carry the team in the Duncanville Classic a week later, netting three strikes in two games against Duncanville and Molina.
Â
Defense has been crucial for Jesuit so far, as all four wins have been shutout victories. Senior goalkeeper
Collin Buechel returns this year after contributing to Jesuit's 12 shutout wins last season.
Â
The Rangers have made the playoffs every year since joining the UIL in 2004. Only district record factors into playoff seeding, so Tuesday's victory is Jesuit's first step in continuing the 11-year streak.
