Release Written by Jesuit Dallas head coach Paul McDanielJesuit Dallas' fall tennis campaign began on Aug. 11th and closed with a 13–3 record, but the importance of wins & losses fades when real life interferes. At Jesuit Dallas, students, coaches, faculty and staff emphasize the importance of community and brotherhood and the strength all members of our community draw from this philosophy. The Jesuit tennis team got the opportunity to demonstrate their support for Laurie Shannon, mother of junior
Clark Shannon as she begins her battle against breast cancer.
The entire Jesuit tennis team, injured or healthy, showed up with their brand new, pink "Let's Beat Breast Cancer" t-shirts and dedicated a 17-3 victory over the John Paul II Cardinals to Ms. Shannon.
"This is a teaching moment for the team. It's not about a win or a loss but rather an opportunity for the boys to reflect on issues beyond a tennis match," commented Jesuit Dallas head coach
Paul McDaniel. "Laurie has been so helpful and gracious to our boys over the past 3 years. This was an opportunity for the team to stop and think about how lucky they are to possess the skills and health to go out and play a game they love and to keep in mind someone we care so much for."
The idea of creating a shirt and playing a match in honor of Lori was the idea of assistant coach Andy Civello, who helped create the shirt while Staci Frost, mother of senior
Campbell Frost, ordered pink wristbands for the boys to wear for the season-ending duel meet.
Jesuit Dallas raced off to a quick 7-1 lead after doubles. Senior
