Live Audio (Mobile)Sky's the Limit: An 18-yard touchdown run by junior Jacob Palisch with 1:06 remaining ushered the Rangers back from a 14-0, second quarter deficit and past the No. 10 Skyline Raiders, 24-21, on Friday, Oct. 2 in front of a passionate crowd at Postell Stadium. Jesuit Dallas handed Skyline its first district loss since the 2008 season, snapping the Raiders' 49-game district winning streak while the Blue and Gold snagged the first win over Skyline under the tenure of Coach Hickman.
Rangers Lauded for Friday Upset: The Rangers garnered heavy media attention after their win over Skyline, earning a pair of Team of the Week honors while also skyrocketing up the area rankings. Entering the Dallas Morning News Area Rankings last week at No. 20, the win over the No. 4 Raiders shot Jesuit Dallas up to No. 11, while Skyline experienced a free fall to No. 13. In addition, Jesuit Dallas was named the Team of the Week by both WFAA Channel 8 and TexasFootball.com after one of the biggest wins for the program since the move to the UIL.
Palisch a Versitile Threat: Compared to the pass-heavy offense demonstrated by current University of Central Florida (UCF) quarterback and 2015 Jesuit Dallas graduate Bo Schneider, junior Jacob Palisch has helped the Blue and Gold to a 4-1 record using both his arm and his legs. Including his game-winning scamper last Friday, Palisch has scored three rushing touchdowns while recording 152 net yards on the season while completing 57-of-95 passes for 626 yards and eight touchdowns.
Make the Seconds Matter: Heading into the third district contest of the season, Jesuit Dallas continues to dominate time of possession. Holding onto the pigskin an average of 10 minutes longer than their opponents, the Rangers have utilized a respectable run game, averaging 38.6 carries per game compared to 23.8 pass attempts.
Hit Early, Hit Often: Friday's win over Skyline was the first victory for the Rangers in 2015 after an opponent opened the scoring, with Jesuit Dallas holding a 3-0 mark when putting points on the scoreboard first. In addition, the Rangers have dominated the first half, holding a 56-15 lead in first quarter scoring and a 124-37 cumulative advantage over the first half.
Scouting Irving: The Tigers enter Friday's game winless and aiming for their first win in district play since a 55-6 triumph over Sunset on Oct. 30, 2014. Irving's offense will be facilitated through quarterback DJ Stephenson, who has thrown for 307 yards on the season, and the two-pronged rushing attack of Raekwon Young and Kyandus Hall, both 150-yard rushers that have scored a pair of touchdowns each. However, the Tigers have been outscored, 97-20, over their first two district games this season, dropping a 49-7 decision to Skyline on Sept. 25 before falling to MacArthur, 48-13, last week.
Ranger Recruitment Update: A pair of Rangers annouced their college destination over the past week. Junior quarterback Jacob Palisch announced on Monday his intention to commit to Stanford University, although he cannot sign his official letter until next year. On Wednesday, senior linebacker Peyton Long announced that he will sign with the United States Naval Academy after also fielding offers from Air Force, Army, Illinois State and Montana State.
Up Next: Jesuit Dallas will return to Irving Schools Stadium for the second consecutive week to clash with Nimitz on 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 16. The Rangers will return to Postell Stadium on Friday, Oct. 23 for the annual "Battle for the Saddle" game against W.T. White at 7:30 p.m.
