Thanks to this week's cold weather, Jesuit hosted a rare two-sport double header Wednesday night at Postell Stadium. Varsity soccer kicked off the night with a match against Skyline at 6:00, a game moved from Tuesday night to Wednesday due to weather.
Â
The Rangers beat the Raiders 3-0, earning their fifth consecutive shutout and continuing to move up the rankings in District 9-6A play. Jesuit is now 6-1-2 in district. Wednesday's win featured goals from each of Jesuit's top scorers:
Patrick Howell scored in the 20
th minute off an assist from
Juan Ramirez, Ramirez scored in the 35
th minute off an assist from
Will Kennard, and
Aldo Quevedo added insurance in the 59
th minute on his own. Each of those goal scorers shares the team lead with six on the season.
Â
The squad has now won five straight games, all with shutouts. A February 13 win over Irving MacArthur (2-0) featured goals from Ramirez and Howell late in the second half and brought Jesuit within striking distance for the top of the table. A 1-0 win over R.L. Turner the next week featured a
Will Kennard goal assisted by junior defensemen
Jon Balok. Last week's 2-0 win over Sunset included second half goals from Quevedo and Kennard, with assists from
Kyle Hazelbaker and
Nathan Escanuela.
Â
Jesuit will host Irving Friday night at 7:30. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Irving High School, but has been moved to Postell Stadium due to field conditions.
