Jesuit Dallas wrapped up its second weekend of competition with a pair of contests at the Duncanville Invitational. After winning their fourth consecutive contest to open the season, 1-0, over eventual University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A foe Nimitz, the Rangers dropped a 1-0 decision to Bel Air (El Paso) on Friday followed by a 0-0 tie with Duncanville on Saturday.
The Rangers (4-1-1) played a back-and-forth contest with the Highlanders, playing to a scoreless first before Bel Air managed to break through with the contest's lone goal with 17 minutes remaining in regulation. The Blue and Gold were unable to convert any opportunities into a late equalizer, suffering their first loss of the season as a result.
On Saturday, Jesuit Dallas and the Panthers clashed in an immensely defensive battle. Junior goalkeeper
Luke Ostrander, the reigning Ranger of the Week, shut out Duncanville in the first half before Joseph Banul entered in the second half for his first action of the season. Banul also impressed, blanking the Panthers in the second stanza, however the Rangers had two goals waved off for offsides and were held scoreless down the stretch, forced to settle for a tie.
The Rangers will return to Postell Stadium, the site where the team won their first Jesuit-Meintser Soccer Invitational title since 2013, to face Coppell on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. Jesuit will then use a seven-day break to prepare for UIL play, which begins on the road against Sunset on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m.
