The Coppell Cowboys broke a scoreless tie in the final minute of regulation, handing the Jesuit Dallas soccer squad its first home loss of the season, 1-0, on Tuesday evening.
Jesuit Dallas (4-2-1) procured several quality opportunities, the majority of which developed during a second half flurry, but the Cowboys took advantage of a decisive advantage in possession to pick up the win at Postell Stadium. Ranger goalkeeper Joseph Banul, moved to the varsity roster over last weekend, made critical saves in net for the Blue and Gold, but the deciding tally came off of a Coppell corner in the waning moments of the contest, a lofting attempt that was deflected and landed in the Ranger goal.
In the opening half, junior
Ethan Moore found senior
Patrick Howell, who worked his way into the box for a quality attempt that was turned aside by the Coppell goalkeeper. Howell forged three additional chances in the second half, including attempts off of passes by junior
Will Kennard and senior
Joe Fimian, but the Rangers were unable to score the go-ahead goal before Coppell's late tally.
The Rangers will next start University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A competition on Tuesday, Jan. 26, when the Blue and Gold will welcome Sunset for an 8 p.m. clash at Postell Stadium.
