Goals by senior
Patrick Howell and sophomore Christian Lerma propelled the Rangers to a 2-0 win over R.L. Turner in University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A action on Tuesday evening at Postell Stadium.
Â
Howell tied fellow fourth year
Liam Finn for the team lead with his fifth goal of the season late in the second half. The two seniors rank atop the district leaders in scoring, tied for third in UIL 9-6A after Tuesday's action. Lerma found the back of the net for the third time this season and scored in his second consecutive contest, keeping his momentum intact after a two-goal outing against MacArthur on Feb. 12.
Â
Lerma tallied an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute, vaulting the Rangers to a 1-0 lead at the halftime break. The Ranger defense shut the Lions' offense down in the second half, keeping R.L. Turner away from the net while Howell's goal with less than two minutes remaining in the contest sealed the victory for the Blue and Gold.  Junior
Luke Ostrander and sophomore Joseph Banul combined for the shutout, assisted by an experienced and impressive Ranger backline.
Â
Jesuit Dallas (11-2-1, 7-0-0 UIL 9-6A) finished the first circuit of district play in dominant fashion, totaling 16 goals while allowing two in the first seven games of the district campaign for a firm grasp on first place. The Rangers currently have 21 points in the UIL District 9-6A standings, seven points ahead of second place Irving.

The Rangers are next scheduled to travel to Seagoville Stadium to battle the Sunset Bison at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19.
