A late-second half goal by senior Patrick Howell kept the Jesuit Dallas soccer team unbeaten in University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A play, lifting the Rangers to a 1-0 win over Irving on Tuesday evening at Irving H.S.
 
Howell tallied his third goal of the season on a pass by fellow senior Pryor Miller, who earned his first assist of the year to go along with a goal in the Rangers' season-opener against Flower Mound Marcus in the championship game of the 2016 Jesuit-Meintser Soccer Invitational on Jan. 9.

With junior Luke Ostrander in goal during the opening half, the Rangers and Tigers played to an even stalemate.  Jesuit Dallas procured three corner kick opportunities during the opening stanza, including one that resulted in a header from senior Joe Fimian that ricocheted off of the crossbar, but were unable to get the go-ahead goal to send the two squads into halftime tied, 0-0.

The second half saw the two squads continue to battle back and forth until late in regulation, with sophomore goalkeeper Joseph Banul standing strong for the Blue and Gold.  With 4:30 remaining, Miller found Powell, who deposited a shot into the back of the net for the game's lone goal.  The Tigers looked to equalize the contest late, but a potential tying goal was waved off due to an offsides call, and the Rangers were able to hang on for the victory.

Jesuit Dallas will next travel to Nimitz High School on Friday, Feb. 5 to battle the Vikings.  Kick-off is currently scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
