Liam Finn's third goal of the 2016 season stood tall for the Jesuit Dallas soccer squad, helping the Rangers remain unbeaten in University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A play with a 1-0 triumph over Nimitz on Friday at Nimitz High School.
Finn's strike, his first since the opening goal in the Rangers' 2-1 win over Sunset on Jan. 26, helped Jesuit Dallas (8-2-1, 4-0-0 UIL) continue a dominant run through the early district campaign. The Rangers have not surrendered a goal since the first half of the game against Sunset, with the tandem of junior
Luke Ostrander and sophomore Joseph Banul combining for three consecutive shutout performances.
The Rangers and Vikings developed quality opportunities early in the first half, with Finn's goal coming on the squad's fourth chance of the half. Ostrander stood tall in goal in the opening stanza, turning aside a pair of corner kicks by Nimitz to keep the lead intact heading into the break. Banul took over in the second, holding the Vikings scoreless to secure the win for the Blue and Gold.
Friday marks the second win this season for Jesuit Dallas over the Vikings. The Rangers upended Nimitz, 1-0, in the first round of the Duncanville Invitational on Jan. 14, a game in which, ironically, Finn scored his first goal of the season and the lone goal of the contest.
Jesuit Dallas will next host W.T. White at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9 before traveling to MacArthur High School to battle the Cardinals at 730 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12.
