Jesuit Dallas used a goal in the 25th minute from senior
Patrick Howell and a late tally from sophomore Christian Lerma to remain unbeaten in University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A play, 2-1, over Irving on Friday evening at Postell Stadium.
Howell tallied his sixth goal and eighth point of the season early in the opening half, helping propel the Rangers (13-2-2, 9-0-1), ranked No. 11 in the February 22nd edition of the
TopDrawerSoccer.com Texas State Rankings, to a dominant lead in the UIL District 9-6A standings.Â
Lerma found the back of the net for the fourth time this season, all four goals of which have been scored over the team's last five contests, while senior
Griffin Scott picked up his second assist of the year on Howell's first half goal.
Jesuit Dallas entered the second half with the 1-0 lead, but the Tigers struck five minutes into the second half to tie the contest at 1-1. In the waning moments of regulation, Lerma broke through with an unassisted goal with 10 minutes remaining, and the Ranger defense held on down the stretch for the win.
The Rangers will next host Irving Nimitz in a senior night bout scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 1.
