Pitching Propels No. 12 Rangers to Friday Sweep

The Rangers swept their way through the second day of the 2016 Highland Park Classic, defeating Richland, 11-1, in six innings before upending Prosper for the second time in as many days, 3-1, on Friday at Prosper High School.

Senior Kyle Muller launched two more home runs in the first game of the afternoon, increasing his season total to 11 with the team in its third week of competition.  Classmate Jared Kengott crushed his first homer of the year, finishing the Richland game 2-for-3.  Senior Bryce Bonner drove in a run against Prosper, while junior Jake Ryan tacked on a double.  On the mound, senior Pete Hamrick and junior Jacob Palisch each threw complete games, with both pitchers striking out six and allowing only one run on four hits.

The Ranger offense opened the day's scoring in the second inning, with Jesuit Dallas (11-3-2) scoring its first run of the game when senior Connor Lynch forced a bases loaded walk.  Junior JT Mix then recorded a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring senior Matt Horvath to give the Rangers a two-run lead.

After Richland scored a run in the third, home runs by Muller in the third and fifth along with a solo bomb by Kengott in the fourth propelled Jesuit to a 5-1 lead headed into the sixth, where the Rangers plated six runs en route to earning a run rule victory.

Kengott scored on a Richland error, junior Mark Ready plated Lynch with an infield single and junior Will Guzman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give Jesuit a seven-run lead.  Muller crossed the plate on another Rebels error before Horvath ended the game with a two-run double that scored Guzman and senior Chris Campagna.

Bonner drove in Muller and Mix with a two-run double to right center in the first inning against reigning University Interscholastic League (UIL) 5A State Champion Prosper.  The Eagles cut the Ranger lead in half with a third inning run, but Palisch kept the Blue and Gold in the lead, getting a two-run cushion after Ready scored in the fourth.

Jesuit Dallas, ranked No. 12 in the most recent TexasHighSchoolBaseball.com 6A Top 25 Poll, will close out the Highland Park Classic on Saturday.  The Rangers will take on Belton at 1:30 p.m. before battling Sachse at 4 p.m.
