Palisch's One-Hitter Sparks Mid-Week Win over W.T. White

Junior Jacob Palisch secured his fifth win and third shutout of the season with an eight strikeout one-hitter, providing the defense to produce a 3-0, University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A win over the W.T. White Longhorns on Tuesday evening at Wright Field.

Senior Matt Horvath excelled at the plate, batting 3-for-3 with three singles, a run scored and RBI.  Fellow fourth-year Pete Hamrick went 1-for-2 with a RBI while senior Kyle Muller scored the Rangers' third run.  Palisch took a no-hitter into the final inning, allowing his first hit of the game with one out in the seventh to fall two outs short of his second no-hitter of the season.

In his previous start, Palisch fanned eight batters in a 12-0 rout of district foe Irving to record the team's third no-hitter during the 2016 campaign.  The eight strikeouts recorded by the junior match his season-high, a tally matched in appearances against Austin Westlake (Mar. 5), Skyline (Mar. 22) and Irving (Apr. 1).

The Rangers (20-5-2, 8-1-0), ranked No. 19 in the most recent TXHighSchoolBaseball.com Top 25 poll, have won 12 of their last 15 games, recording their eighth consecutive shutout of the year on Tuesday. Jesuit pitching has been especially potent during district play, with the Blue and Gold holding 9-6A foes scoreless on six occasions.

Jesuit Dallas led off the first two innings with base hits but left five runners stranded.  Senior Bryce Bonner eliminated W.T. White's first base runner of the game, catching the Longhorn stealing second for the second out of the third.

In the bottom of the frame, Muller walked and scored after Horvath smacked a single that dropped in front of the left fielder.  Mix scored in the fourth after earning a one-out walk, stealing second, and then finding his way home with a dribbler through the left side by Hamrick.  The Rangers' final run came courtesy of a W.T. White error, which allowed Horvath to cross the plate after leading off the sixth with his third single of the game.

Palisch retired the Longhorns in order during the fifth and sixth innings, allowing his lone hit on a one-out flare to left field.  The junior responded by striking out his eighth batter of the game and forcing a two-out groundout on the first pitch to the final batter, winning the "Battle for the Saddle" clash between the two local rivals.

Jesuit Dallas will next travel to W.T. White High School to battle the Longhorns in a 5 p.m. clash on Friday, Apr. 15.
