Senior
Kyle Muller retired the first 17 MacArthur batters in order, while a six-run sixth by the No. 18 Jesuit Dallas Rangers led to a 14-0, University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A win on Tuesday evening at MacArthur H.S.
The senior and University of Texas commit fanned 10 batters, allowing one walk while conceding only a single hit. Muller secured his sixth win of the season on Tuesday while lowering his earned run average on the year to a microscopic 0.20. Muller has yet to yield more than three runs to a single opponent this season, and has not been charged with an earned run since a win on Mar. 10 against Prosper.
Alongside Muller, seniors
Jared Kengott and
Matt Horvath scattered two hits each, while Muller led the team with a pair of runs driven in. Kengott crossed the plate a team leading three times, while senior
Bryce Bonner junior
JT Mix and third year
Jake Ryan each picked up a hit.Â
Seniors
Jared Bond,
Pete Hamrick and
Connor Lynch forced bases loaded walks to pick up a RBI each, with Lynch earning a team-leading three walks for the Rangers (22-5-2, 10-1-0).
Mix singled to left to lead off the game, later scoring on a two-out wild pitch to open the scoring. Jesuit scored three runs on one hit and one error in the second, including a two-run single by Horvath that turned into a two-run error after an errant throw by the Cardinals' pitcher.Â
Junior
Will Guzman walked to lead off the third, scoring after a throwing error on a stolen base attempt before back-to-back bases loaded walks to Muller and Hamrick spotted the visiting Rangers a 7-0 advantage.
Muller allowed his only hit of the game in the fourth inning, but the base runner was thrown out attempting to stretch a double into a triple on a strong relay throw from center fielder
Alex Lengyel that ensured that Muller's putout streak would stay intact.Â
In the sixth, Jesuit would put the game out of reach with a seven-run frame on five hits and two MacArthur errors, including RBI singles by Ryan, Muller and Bonner alongside bases loaded walks to Bond and Lynch.
The Rangers will return to action on Friday, Apr. 22, hosting the Cardinals for a 7 p.m. first pitch at Wright Field.
