No. 11 Rangers Capture Game One of Bi-District Series

Jesuit Dallas kicked off the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A Baseball State Tournament in resounding fashion, scoring a 10-0 win over North Mesquite in game one of the UIL Bi-District round on Friday evening at Wright Field.

A pair of two-RBI singles from junior JT Mix and senior Connor Lynch provided the charge for the Rangers (26-5-2), who can clinch an UIL Area Round berth with a win on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Bryce Bonner added two RBI, fellow fourth year Pete Hamrick led the Rangers with two hits on the evening, and senior Kyle Muller picked up a hit and scored a team-leading three runs.  Jesuit Dallas set a new team season-high with six stolen bases, three of which were recorded by Muller.

Junior Jacob Palisch picked up his seventh victory of the year, throwing the complete, five-inning game, and striking out eight. Palisch only allowed two hits, carrying a perfect game into the fourth inning.

Muller kicked off the offense for the Rangers in the first, scoring on a RBI single by Hamrick down the right field line.  The second inning saw Jesuit drop six runs on six hits, the first a two-RBI single through the right side by Lynch, bringing seniors Jared Bond and Matt Horvath home to spot the home team a 3-0 advantage.

Lynch later stole home before a RBI single by Hamrick, RBI triple by senior Bryce Bonner and RBI double by junior Will Guzman closed out the second inning scoring for the Rangers.

After a scoreless third, North Mesquite placed its first runner on base after a leadoff hit-by-pitch, ending Palisch's no-hitter aspirations with a single in the next at-bat.  However, Bonner eliminated the runner in scoring position with a perfect throw to Horvath, picking off the Stallions' leadoff hitter Antonio Ulloa, and Palisch responded with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

Bonner's second RBI of the evening came on a fourth inning sacrifice fly, and Mix ended the contest with a two-out single through the right side, scoring Bond and Horvath to clinch the run-rule, game one victory.

Jesuit Dallas, ranked No. 11 in the most recent TXHighSchoolBaseball.com poll, aims to clinch the UIL Bi-District Championship on Saturday, May 7 at Copeland Baseball Field.  First pitch for game two is scheduled for 3 p.m., with game three immediately following if necessary.
