The Ranger tennis squad improved their season-opening winning streak to three with a dominant, 17-4 win over J.J. Pearce on Tuesday afternoon. Anchored once again by the Jesuit underclassmen, the Rangers demonstrated their depth and continued their outstanding start to the 2016-17 season.
"J.J. Pearce played a really young group of guys today which will really help them in the years to come," commented Jesuit Dallas head coach
Paul McDaniel. "It's just right now we have such a strong combination of experience, talent and youth they can't really match up to us."
Juniors
John Lindberg and
Alex Giebler scored a 6-1, 6-1 decision at top-flight singles, with both securing wins in their respective singles matches.
Jesuit assistant coach
Andy Civello '97 added '"It's so much fun to be able to put different doubles teams together right now and know whoever we put together are going to compete hard and win."Â
Junior
Nico Elizondo and sophomore
Kota Ueshima also secured decisive singles wins to exemplify the team's depth heading into the 2016-17 campaign. The Rangers boast a roster this season anchored by only three seniors, complimented by a group of seven juniors, three sophomores and five freshmen.
"Last year Kota really struggled to compete at the varsity level," concluded McDaniel. "He has really worked hard over the summer, become more aggressive and confident and has learned to really put pressure on his opponent. Nico just comes right at you, he's relentless."
The Blue and Gold will next travel to Lake Highlands to battle the Wildcats at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20 before returning to Hockaday for a Thursday afternoon bout against Liberty Christian.
