The Jesuit Dallas relay teams sparked team success, helping the Rangers open 2017 with a pair of eyebrow-raising performances. The Rangers defeated Frisco Liberty, 99-67 and Frisco Lone Star, 92-70, in a Jan. 10 tri-meet after competing in the Kyle Tilley Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 7 in Lewisville.

Patrick Daniels dominated the pool in Frisco, winning both the 200 medley (1:42.14) and 200 free (1:33.89) relays. At the Tilley Invitational, the same 200 medley team finished second to lead off the Invitational with a total relay time of 1:44.45, adding a fourth-place, 1:32.17 in the 200 free relay.

R.L. Hoover, junior Charlie Day and Daniels added a third-place, 3:39.91 to keep Jesuit ahead against Liberty and Lone Star, while freshman
Ryan Brown joined Bedard, Hoover and Day at the Tilley Invite, racing to a 3:48.50 and finishing 14th.
Ayres scored two victories against Frisco, sparking a pair of 1-2 finishes for the Rangers. The seniors' first victory came with a 22.14 in the 50 free, followed by a 23.55 by Daniels. Ayres then hit the wall in 48.97 to capture the 100 free, while Bedard's 54.31 earned second place.
In Frisco, Jesuit captured four individual wins, including a 56.97, first-place finish by Lopez in the 100 free and a victory by Day, who finished the 100 back in 1:00.76. Day added a 1:59.06 in the 200 free to finish second, while Nguyen tacked on two second-place finishes, first in the 100 breast (1:06.82) before scoring in the 200 free (1:59.06).
Brown closed the 100 back in 1:03.84 to finish third and assist in the sweep, Hoover hit the wall in 2:17.56 to finish fourth in the 200 I.M., and Lopez wrapped his impressive afternoon with a third-place, 5:33.25 in the 500 free.
At the Tilley Invitational, Ayres logged the highest individual finish of the afternoon with a second-place, 53.70 in the 100 fly, followed by Lopez in sixth (57.31), and Nguyen in ninth (58.48). Charlie Day finished seventh in the 200 I.M., clocking a 2:16.03 to score points for Jesuit, adding a 12th place, 1:01.24 in the 100 back.
Nguyen finished 13th in the 100 breast with a 1:08.54, and Hoover scored individually in the 200 I.M., finishing 10th by hitting the wall in 2:19.25.
Jesuit Dallas will next compete in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 8-6A Championships, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Loos Aquatic Center in Addison, Texas.
