Jesuit Dallas soccer broke back into the
TopDrawerSoccer.com Texas Top 15 on Monday after shutting out W.T. White, 3-0, on Friday evening at Alfred J. Loos Stadium in Addison, Texas.
Â
Seniors
Will Kennard,
Ethan Moore and junior
Christian Lerma found the back of the net for the Blue and Gold (8-2-1, 5-0-1 UIL 9-6A), who remain tied atop UIL District 9-6A with Coppell as the first circuit of district play winds down. Seniors
Chase Burciaga,
Tommy Flaim and
James LaRoe secured assists, while senior
Luke Ostrander and junior
Joseph Banul split the shutout.
Â
Banul closed the door on a desperate W.T. White (3-7-2, 2-4-0 UIL 9-6A), who drop their fourth straight with Friday's setback. The Longhorns out-shot Jesuit, 12-7, but four second half saves by Banul kept the clean sheet intact, propelling Jesuit to its fifth shutout of the year.
Â
Both teams struggled in the beginning of the contest, with W.T. White recording the first shot on target for either team with 17:56 remaining in the first. The pace began to pick up down the stretch, culminating when Moore headed home a corner kick taken by Flaim in the 36th minute to send Jesuit into the break leading, 1-0.
Â
W.T. White harnessed momentum in the second half, sending a pair of shots on goal that Banul was able to turn aside. However, Jesuit regained control with a goal by Kennard off of a pass from LaRoe. After gathering the ball, Kennard sent a fantastic, curling shot past the outstretched glove of the Longhorn goalkeeper and inside the right post for the two-goal lead.
Â
The Longhorns attempted four more shots over the final 16 minutes, but Jesuit clinched the win with 3:25 remaining, when Burciaga found Lerma on a lob pass over the defense and the junior responded with his team-leading 10th goal of the season.
Â
Jesuit will travel to Richardson, Texas on Tuesday to face off against Berkner at 7:30 p.m. before beginning the second round of UIL 9-6A play with a huge matchup against state-ranked No. 4 Coppell on Friday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
