Jesuit recovered from an early-season setback to state power Plano West with a resounding, 15-3 victory against McKinney Boyd on September 4. The top-flight doubles team of sophomores
Max Platt and
Matthew Cole set the tone with a 6-2, 6-0 win, followed by a 7-5, 6-2 decision for freshman
Reid Aaron and junior
Trey Ashmore at No. 2 doubles.
Â
"Last year Platt and Matt Cole played together a couple of times," commented Jesuit Dallas head coach
Paul McDaniel. "I wanted to see if those two were still a strong doubles team."Â
Â
In addition, Aaron and Ashmore secured singles victories to remain unbeaten this season and head into the third match of the year with matching 4-0 records. Reigning Ranger of the Week Platt kept his strong start to the season intact with a 6-2, 6-0 decision at top-flight singles, defeating Boyd's Ethan Kittredge. Throughout two meets this season, Platt has only dropped four games to opponents, defeating both of his foes in straight sets.
Â
""Several of our young players are getting a taste of high school tennis for the first time," added assistant coach Andy Civello '98. "They're learning they have to go hard from the first point until the match is over. It's been fun watching them learn the ropes."Â
Â
Additional doubles winners included a 7-6, 6-1 triumph for sophomores
Eli Gan-Dy and
Alec Gomez, a 6-1, 6-2 win by the team of sophomores
Jake Darlak and
Connor Bryant at No. 5 doubles and a 6-1, 6-2 decision in favor of sophomores
Jonathan Ardoin and
Jack Murray.
Â
The domination in doubles paid dividends in singles play, as the Rangers won 10 of 12 points. Cole, Gan-Dy, Gomez, Ashmore, Clement, Darlak, Ardoin and Murrah all secured victories, including a 6-0, 6-3 win by Gomez at No. 5 singles and a dominating, 6-1, 6-1 win for Clement.
Â
Jesuit will next compete against Prosper on Friday, September 7 to start a three-game road trip. The Rangers will take on Allen on Wednesday, September 12 before closing the trip on Tuesday, September 18 against Plano.
