GAME PREVIEW: Jesuit, Prosper Meet in Clash of District Unbeatens

Rangers Storm Back For Dominant Win over Boyd: Jesuit Dallas scored 40 unanswered points after absorbing a 14-point surge by McKinney Boyd in the opening minutes of the first quarter and secured a 40-21 win over the Broncos on Sept. 26 at McKinney ISD Stadium. Senior EJ Smith led the charge with three rushing touchdowns, finishing the game with 140 rushing yards while catching five passes for 43 yards. Smith anchored a running game that rushed the ball 45 times for 309 yards. Junior Sam Morales scored his first varsity touchdown while junior Jake Taylor carried the ball a team-high 16 times for 80 net yards. Quarterback Rance Holman rushed the ball 11 times for 57 yards, adding 21 completions for 127 yards.

Sophomore Robert Fitzgerald caught a pair of interceptions that led to Jesuit touchdowns, becoming the first Ranger to with two interceptions in a game since senior Jack Barton in 2017. Barton led the team with seven tackles as seniors Chase Walker and Tommy Roy added six tackles each.

Junior Parker Brown converted all three of his attempted field goals, knocking kicks from 19, 21 and 31 yards through the uprights to help Jesuit remain within striking distance before taking control in the third quarter. Senior Mitchell Campbell added his third field goal of the year to open the team's scoring in the first quarter.

Jesuit's defense was phenomenal on third down, holding Boyd without a third-down conversion on eight attempts during the game. In addition, the Rangers kept an impressive shutout streak intact, as the Blue and Gold have yet to yield a point to an opponent in the third quarter.

Determined Defense Leading Charge During Win Streak: Over Jesuit's three-game winning streak, the defense has locked down opposing offenses while excelling in game-breaking scenarios. The Rangers have held opponents to a 3-of-31 clip on third-down conversions and an 0-for-4 success rate on fourth downs, holding the ball on average for seven more minutes than opponents. The Rangers have ultimately out-gained their opponents, 350-211, during three-game streak and have amassed 57 first downs compared to 33 by opponents.

Returning to Form: Since returning to action on Sept. 13 against Wylie, senior EJ Smith has quickly regained his previous threat as one of the top offensive threats in the district. Through three games, Smith has three touchdown receptions and four touchdowns on the ground while averaging 120 all-purpose yards per game. The senior's three-touchdown performance against the Broncos marks his sixth game with three or more touchdowns during his Jesuit career.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Prosper Shuts Out Plano East: Jackson Berry accounted for 285 yards and three touchdowns as Prosper dominated Plano East in the District 9-6A opener at Children's Health Stadium and remained unbeaten. A stingy Prosper defense bottled up the Plano East all night, particularly in the final three quarters. Plano East (1-4, 0-1) gained 99 yards in the first quarter and only 11 for the remainder of the contest. The game started with Prosper driving 79 yards in five plays and ended with Berry passing 29 yards to Cameron Harpole to make it 7-0. Prosper (5-0) scored 28 points in the third quarter and amassed 378 total yards.

Unbeaten Eagles Dominating Early Season Foes: Prosper enters Friday's contest outscoring opponents by over 30 points per game. The Eagles have held four of their five opponents to 14 points or less this season, opening the season by allowing only seven points to Rowlett and Timber Creek before blanking Plano East last week.

Follow My Lead: Prosper enters Friday's game with the district's second-best rushing offense as the team averages 242 rushing yards per game. JT Lane leads the charge with 466 yards and nine touchdowns while Tyler Bailey has averaged 10.9 yards per carry with a pair of touchdowns. Quarterback Jackson Berry has five rushing touchdowns to his credit.

Making a Statement: The Eagles will conclude their first circuilt through 6A this season following a 9-3 season which culminated with a bi-district championship. Currently ranked No. 11 in the Dallas Morning News area poll, Prosper found immense success prior to the move to 6A, winning the UIL Division I-3A State Championship in 2008.

On the Horizon: Prosper will return to the newly opened Children's Health Stadium to face McKinney Boyd next Friday before another road trip on Oct. 25 against Plano H.S.
