GAME PREVIEW: Rangers Face Boyd on Short Week, Thursday's Game to Feature Live Video Stream

Rangers Race to Dominant Opening Lead, Upend Plano West: Jesuit Dallas erupted for 21 points in the first quarter and held the Plano West offense in check to open the district season with a 38-3 win over the Wolves on Friday at Postell Stadium. The Rangers even their overall record to 2-2 with the victory and take a critical first district victory ahead of a road battle against McKinney Boyd on a short week.

Senior Rance Holman led the charge with 194 yards passing and four touchdowns as classmate EJ Smith celebrated his first full game back from injury with three touchdowns on 89 all-purpose yards. Christian Allocco caught his first career varsity touchdown reception as Jonathan Paredes added his second score of the year. Junior Parker Brown logged a career-long, 27-yard field goal to cap Jesuit's scoring.

Defensively, senior Chase Walker snagged his first career interception to set up Jesuit's second touchdown of the game, making six tackles while recording an additional pass breakup. Senior Jack Barton led the charge with eight tackles while junior Peter Melle forced a fumble recovered by Plano West on a five-yard sack. The Ranger defense has dominated opponents in the third quarter this season as the Blue and Gold have shut out all foes in the third quarter through four games this season.

Jesuit totaled 352 yards of offense while holding Plano West to 215. The Rangers held the Wolves in check on third and fourth-down situations as Plano West went 1-for-10 on third downs and 0-for-2 on fourth downs. By comparison, Jesuit converted 6-of-12 third downs, 1-of-2 fourth downs and were especially lethal in the red zone, scoring on five of six opportunities inside the 25-yard line.

Leading the District: Senior quarterback Rance Holman is the current district leader in passing yardage with 876 yards through four games this season. Holman has 12 touchdowns to his credit, has completed 52.5 percent of his passes and averages 219 yards per game. Holman has thrown two or more touchdowns in every game this season, including a season-high four touchdowns against Plano West last week. The senior completed a season-high 24 passes in the season opener against Arlington before throwing for a season-high 281 yard against DeSoto on Sept. 7.

Third Quarter Goose Egg: The Rangers have yet to yield a point to an opponent in the third as the Blue and Gold hold a 28-0 advantage in the period. Jesuit has continued to secure momentum from halftime heading to third quarter, as the Rangers have also outscored their opponents, 55-40, in the second quarter. However, opponents have held Jesuit in check during the fourth quarter, outscoring the Blue and Gold, 45-7. Jesuit's lone fourth quarter touchdown came in the season opener against Arlington on Aug. 30.

Up Next: Jesuit Dallas will take a week off before returning to Postell Stadium on Oct. 11 against Prosper. The Rangers will play at home three times over the final five weeks of the season beginning with the Eagles as the Blue and Gold will battle Plano on Oct. 25 and Plano East on Nov. 8.

Broncos See Lead Slip Away Against Panthers: (Courtesy of Dallas Morning News) Dylan Hayden scored on a five yard run with six seconds left in the game, leading Plano East to a 21-14 victory over McKinney Boyd, their first win of the season. Plano East started the drive on their 47 with 5:12 on the clock and consumed most of the time with a 12 play drive. Hayden and running back Trey Scott-Jones combined for eleven carries on the possession before Hayden's winning score.

Behind 7-0 at halftime, McKinney Boyd (2-2, 0-1) took advantage of two Plano East miscues in the third quarter to take a 14-7 lead. Taking over at the East 30 yard line after a short punt, Boyd took only four plays to score with Ja Tyler Shaw running it in from five yards out. Just a few plays later, Boyd recovered an East fumble and scored two plays later on a Carter Whitefield run. Shaw led Boyd in rushing with 54 yards.

Hayden scored all three touchdowns for Plano East (1-3, 1-0) and finished with 112 rushing yards and 105 through the air. Scott-Jones added 100 yards on the ground and defensive lineman Noel Oliva led a stout defensive effort that limited Boyd to only 53 yards of offense in the second half.

Coach McBride Note: Joe McBride became the second head coach in McKinney Boyd history last February and returned to the sidelines for the first time since 2014 to help lead a team that finished 2-8 last season. Prior to his arrival at McKinney, McBride was the athletic director at Coppell, one of Jesuit's former district foes. McBride replaced long-time coach Don Drake, who led the Boyd football program for 13 years before resigning in November.

Boyd Offense Aiming to Regain Momentum: McKinney Boyd's offense has struggled after the team's season-opening, 45-7 win over Naaman Forest on Aug. 30, scoring 49 points over the last three weeks. Running back Ja'Tyler Shaw has been a highlight of the offense, averaging 4.2 per rush and 63 yards per game, and is the second-highest scorer on the team with four touchdowns this season.

Allen 56, Plano 20: Allen quarterback Raylen Sharpe threw for 201 of his 235 yards in the first half, helping Allen build a 35-7 halftime lead on its way to a convincing win in the District 9-6A opener for both teams Friday at John Clark Stadium. Allen scored touchdowns on all four of its first-quarter possessions to take a 28-0 lead, opening with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Sharpe - a SMU commit - to Darrion Sherfield. An eight-yard touchdown run by Jordan Johnson with 5:55 left in the frame was set up by a fumble recovery by Braydon Manning after a forced fumble by Lane Lewis. Devin Moore recovered his own blocked punt in the end zone to extend Allen's lead to 21-0 with 3:33 left in the frame. Allen's Celdon Manning rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, including an 11-yard scoring run to give Allen a 42-7 lead with 5:36 left in the third quarter. Alexander Green and Kris Collins had an interception apiece in the second half as Allen (4-0, 1-0 in 9-6A), ranked No. 3 in The Dallas Morning News' Class 6A area poll and in the Associated Press' 6A state poll, picked up its 69th consecutive regular-season win and 56th consecutive district victory. Plano's Tylan Hines led all players with 155 yards rushing, including a 74-yard touchdown run with 2:55 remaining. Jayden Chambers threw a 44-yard touchdown pass off a halfback-option play to Nolan Williams with 6:01 left in the second quarter for Plano (2-2, 0-1), which has lost 14 consecutive games to Allen.

Prosper 49, McKinney 14: Prosper's offense racked up 491 total yards of offense and forced three McKinney turnovers to secure a 49-14 win over the Lions. Prosper quarterback Jackson Berry completed 17-of-29 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns while JT Lane carried the ball 17 times for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Berry completed two touchdown passes for Hayden Metcalf, who caught eight passes for 170 yards. McKinney's Sampson Nazarko, who entered the week as the district passing leader, was limited to 11-of-24 passing for 60 yards and two interceptions. The runningback tandem of Lamarrya Ransem and RJ Carver combined for 251 yards and two touchdowns, led by Ransem's 164 yard outing. Prosper jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead and scored 35 unanswered points before McKinney scored its first touchdown of the game with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter. In the fourth, Berry completed a 42-yard pass to Harpole before Lane put the game away with a 59-yard run with three minutes left in the contest. Ransem scored on a 55-yard run with 2:50 left to complete the scoring.

Wylie 22, Sachse 21: A 41-yard touchdown catch by Seth Kramer breathed life into Wylie (1-3, 1-0 District 10-6A) trailing by 11 in the fourth quarter in their 22-21 win over Sachse. The win was Wylie's first of the season. Kramer, who led Wylie with three catches for 65 yards, also put his team in scoring position with a 24-yard catch on their final drive of the game. Running back Tre Sheffield stuffed the ball in for the go-ahead score two plays later. Wylie's Jamie Marlin intercepted the last Sachse pass of the night to close out the game. Wylie's defense scooped up three fumbles as well in a strong showing. Sachse's defense stymied Wylie for much of the game, including two interceptions, one of which resulted in a 31-yard touchdown return by James Boyd in the third quarter.

Arlington 48, Mesquite Horn 35: Quarterback Kris Sims threw five touchdown passes and rushed for 89 yards to lead Arlington to its 14th consecutive regular season win, beating Mesquite Horn, 48-35, at Hanby Stadium. Sims' second touchdown pass extended the lead for Arlington (3-0) to 21-9 with 6:50 left in the second quarter. On that play, Sims bounced off a hit in the backfield, spun around and then found a wide open Rodney Luckey in the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown. He hooked up with Luckey again in the fourth quarter on a 65-yard touchdown pass to increase the lead to 41-23.

DeSoto 55, Waxahachie 12: A pair of Samari Collier touchdown passes to Lawrence Arnold were bookends to a dominant first half as DeSoto (4-0, 1-0) beat Waxahachie 55-12 Friday night. Collier set up the first DeSoto score with a 33-yard run to the Waxahachie 8-yard-line. He would connect with Arnold on the next play for a 7-0 lead. DeSoto would score touchdowns on the next three possessions, including a 72-yard run from Jyison Brown. He finished with 133 rushing yards on eight carries. Joshua Jackson added 93 yards and two touchdowns for DeSoto. When Collier connected with Arnold for a 13-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds left in the second half, DeSoto had gained 373 total yards, 15 first downs and a 34-6 lead.
