Rangers Rout Lake Highlands, Start 2020-21 Season with 2-0 Record

9/24/2020 10:40:00 AM

Jesuit Dallas picked up its second win of the season with an 8-1 win over Lake Highlands on Tuesday in Richardson. A sweep of singles play wrapped the dominating performance after the Blue and Gold captured two of three doubles matches. The Rangers move to 2-0 on the season with the victory as Jesuit has taken 14 of 18 points from opponents.

Sophomore Alex Park won his top-flight singles debut with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Freshman Zach Whittington added a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 2 singles, and joined Park with a 6-3, 6-1 win at top-flight doubles. Seniors Jake Darlak and Jack Murray teamed up for a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, then added wins in singles play. Darlak scored a convincing, 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles before Murray tacked on a 6-4 (7-4), 6-1 win.

Seniors Carl Wilson won at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-3, before fourth year Connor Bryant captured the final win of the sweep with a hard fought three-set victory at sixth-flight singles, 5-4 (7-1), 3-5, 10-6.

"This was the first match for several of our young players," commented Jesuit Dallas head coach Paul McDaniel. "Newcomers Alex Park and Zach Whittington both impressed their opponents and teammates with their skill & poise.  Also, Senior Connor Bryant really looked confident and aggressive since last year.

"Captains Jake Darlak and Diego Elizondo were stabilizing influences in doubles and singles.  The next few matches against the Irving schools are not going to be too competitive so even though our top players won't get much playing time it's going to be a great opportunity for our younger or inexperienced players to get some match time."

Jesuit will continue the season on Tuesday, Sept. 29 against MacArthur. The Rangers' run through district competition will continue against fellow 7-6A foes Nimitz (Oct. 6), Berkner (Oct. 13), Irving H.S. (Oct. 16) and Richardson H.S. (Oct. 20).
