JESUIT SWEEPS ARLINGTON: The Rangers secured their seventh consecutive bi-district series win with a two-game sweep of the Arlington Colts. Jesuit outscored Arlington, 28-1 in the series, securing a 14-1 win in game one on Friday before ending the series with a 14-0 win on Saturday. Junior Cash Riley registered the big hit of game one, a grand slam that put the Rangers ahead in the second inning, while senior Tucker Huhn went the distance on the mound and struck out seven en route to picking up the win. Game two saw the Jesuit offensive continue to click as the Rangers scattered 12 hits while the junior duo of Tommy Delaney and Myles Tucker drove in three runs each. Junior Jake Storey carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and moved to 10-0 on the year with a complete-game, five-strikeout outing. Senior Drew Messick went 5-for-5 from the plate during the series, landing on the Dallas Morning News Player of the Week honorable mention list.
SCOUTING THE COWBOYS: Coppell swept Guyer in two games, securing a 2-0 win in game one before ending the Wildcats' season with an 8-4 win on Friday. Will Rodman led the charge with 12 strikeouts in game one, and has not given up a run since April 16, a run that has spanned 21 innings. In game two, Tony Vernars drove in four runs, going 2-for-3 at the plate as the Cowboys scored four runs in the second to pull ahead en route to the sweep-clinching victory. Coppell, competing in its 16th consecutive postseason, enters this weekend's series with an eight-game winning streak, a run that dates back to April 10.
ON THE HORIZON: The winner of this weekend's series will take on either Prosper or Arlington Martin in a UIL Region I-6A Quarterfinal. The Eagles and Warriors will begin their three-game series on Thursday at L.D. Bell H.S. in Hurst, Texas.
