Kyle Muller '16, a vaunted left-handed pitcher who helped lead Jesuit Dallas to its first University Interscholastic League (UIL) baseball state championship in 2016, made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut on Wednesday, June 17, throwing the fifth inning for the Braves against the Boston Red Sox at Truist Park.
Muller closed out his one inning of work with a strikeout, picking up the first strikeout of his major league career on an 83 mile per hour breaking ball to Boston pitcher Garrett Richards. Muller's fastball hovered around the mid-90s throughout the inning, peaking at 97 miles per hour on a 1-2 pitch to J.D. Martinez. Muller earned the promotion to Atlanta following a stellar run for the Braves' Triple-A affiliate Gwinnett Stripers, a run that saw the lefty leave the Triple-A East Division ranked seventh with 41 strikeouts, 20 of which came over his last three starts. Over his last three starts, Muller has recorded a 1.69 earned run average and has held opponents to a .148 batting average with 20 strikeouts.
