Rangers Capture Fourth Straight District Win At Irving

Jesuit Dallas scored 21 points in the second quarter en route to securing a 63-50 win over Irving on the road Tuesday night. The Rangers will enter a matchup on Friday against district leader and state top-ranked Richardson on a four-game winning streak after securing their fifth win in District 7-6A.
 
Senior Ben Johnson led the charge on the night, scoring 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting and hitting four-three pointers to lead all scorers. Senior Ryan McCormick added 10 points to the Jesuit effort, while senior Grant Kostos led the team with eight rebounds. Junior Dylan Gibbons scored nine points with a team-leading four assists while junior Tai Kryger secured nine points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists. Senior Will Mansour secured three assists, while junior Owen Berry and senior Sky Tschurr added two assists apiece.
 
Jesuit held Irving to 13 points in the second quarter and used an 11-4 run to end the second quarter to take a 32-23 lead into the halftime break. The Rangers scored 17 points off of nine Irving turnovers, tacked on 24 points in the paint, but truly made a difference in the game with 19 second chance points off of 17 offensive rebounds.
 
The Rangers will next travel to battle a Richardson team that upended Lake Highlands, 85-78, on Tuesday night to move to 6-0 in district play. The Eagles are 21-1 overall on the season and are the top-ranked team in the state according to the most recent Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Top 25 Poll, released on Jan. 17. Tip-off between the Rangers and Eagles is set for 7 p.m. on Friday night.
