Jesuit Dallas faced a 2-0 deficit late in the first half, but a tally by sophomore
George Horvat began a committed comeback attempt for the Rangers that fell just short in a 4-3 loss to the district-leading Mustangs on Friday at Postell Stadium.
Horvat's goal, assisted by senior
Jack Fisher, came in the 39th minute off of a free kick. It was the lone shot of the half by the Rangers, who were outshot-, 13-1 in the first half by the Mustangs. Junior Chris Rodriguez recorded three first half saves, helping open the door for Horvat to cut the lead in half heading into the break.
In the second half, junior
Josh Roppolo scored his sixth goal of the year, taking advantage of a Mustang turnover and chipping a shot over the Pearce goalkeeper to tie the game in the 57th minute. Pearce scored two unanswered goals over the next 10 minutes, returning the lead to two before Fisher added a tally of his own in the 71st minute to once again cut to the Pearce lead to a single goal.
Jesuit was unable to find the late second half equalizer, as a 77th minute header by sophomore
Jason Ogbolu was saved by the Pearce goalkeeper in Jesuit's fial chance of the game.
The Rangers will return to action on Tuesday, when the Blue and Gold will travel to Lake Highlands H.S. to battle the Wildcats. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
