Ryan McCormick snagged his sixth double-double of the season, but the Rangers were unable to solve for a focused Martin offense as a late third-quarter shooting surge pushed the Warriors past Jesuit, 56-49, ending the Rangers' season in the Region I-6A bi-district round on Tuesday. Jesuit ends the 2021-22 season with a 16-14 record, and keep an impressive run of postseason appearances intact wih its 13th appearance in the last 14 years.
McCormick scored 22 points and picked up 12 rebounds, finishing the contest 9-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-5 from three-point range. Junior
Owen Berry was the Rangers' second-highest scorer with eight points, followed by seven points from senior
Ben Johnson, six points from junior
Tai Kryger, four points from junior
Dylan Gibbons and two points from senior
Grant Kostos. Johnson added a team-leading five assists as senior Sky Tschur tacked on three assists and two steals.
The Rangers were held to 26 percent from the field in the first half, but found their footing in the third quarter, going 6-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-5 from behind the arc to cut into the Martin lead. McCormick scored a layup with 7:24 remaining in the fourth to cut the Martin lead to 11, but the Warriors rattled off an 8-3 run to take a 16-point lead with 4:55 remaining in the contest.
Martin only went 5-of-12 from the free-throw line and were held to an 0-for-5 clip from the field over the final four minutes of the contest, but the Rangers were unable to cash in on the opportunity, finishing the contest 5-of-10 from the floor and 1-for-4 from three-point range with two turnovers down the stretch.
