A two-run double by senior
David Long in the second inning and a critical insurance run by junior
Dominic Migliore provided all the run support needed for the junior tandem of
Luke Isett and
Jack Barr as Jesuit scored a 3-1 win at Little Elm on Monday evening. The Rangers have now won their season opener in four of the last five seasons and are set to host a weekend tournament at Wright Field, a six-game slate that starts on Thursday afternoon.
Migliore collected his first varsity hit to start the top of the second, moving to second on a bunt single by freshman
Jake Fults. On the first pitch of the first at bat of his senior season, Long ripped a double into the right-center gap, plating Migliore and Fults to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead. In the third, senior
Myles Tucker tacked on his first hit of the year with a single to left, scoring on a single to left by Migliore.
Isett picked up his first win of the year with five innings of shutout work, only allowing two hits while striking out six batters. Barr picked up the save after pitching the final two innings of the game, striking out three of the eight batters he faced.
Jesuit will co-host the Collin County invitational this upcoming weekend, and begin their tournament run against Lovejoy on Mar. 3 at 11 a.m. before taking on Fossil Ridge at 6:30 p.m. Friday's action will see the Blue and Gold battle Byron Nelson (11 a.m.) and Denton Ryan (6:30 p.m.), and Saturday will see Jesuit take on Midlothian Heritage (10 a.m.) and Plano East (12:30 p.m.).
