Eli Brown Named Jesuit Dallas Head Crew Coach

10/17/2023 2:48:00 PM

Athletic Director Steve Koch has announced Eli Brown as the new head coach for Jesuit Dallas Crew. A former Ivy League student-athlete with a proven pedigree of success as a coach in the metroplex, Brown looks to aid the Rangers and continue a tradition of excellence that has included regional dominance and a consistent presence on the USRowing national stage.

This marks Brown's third stint at Jesuit Dallas, and his first as head coach. He served as an assistant coach at Jesuit from 2019-21, returning to the staff in the summer of 2022. During his time with Jesuit, the Rangers saw substantial increases across the board, with student-athletes excelling both on the water and in the classroom.

"Coach Brown is an exceptional coach who prides himself in helping form a complete student-athlete," commented Koch. "The future of our crew program is in great hands with Eli at the helm, and I am looking forward to seeing the tradition of excellence continue under his guidance."

The 2019 crew team delivered a triumphant performance at the USRowing Central Regional Championships, securing wins in five of six events, leading to three boats qualifying for the USRowing National Youth Championships. After the COVID-19 pandemic prematurely ended the season, the Rangers came storming back in 2021 with another convincing performance at regionals which sent the Blue and Gold back to nationals.

"With a rich history of success, we're returning to our roots to rebuild and rekindle the competitive spirit that has defined us," said new head coach Eli Brown. "Success will naturally follow as we invest in our athletes' growth and potential, ensuring they not only excel on the water but also acquire skills that will serve them well in life beyond the crew."

A Dallas native, Brown rowed for the White Rock Boathouse Juniors while attending Woodrow Wilson and was a two-time national qualifier. Brown set team records in the 2k and in the 5k and earned a spot on the U.S. Junior National Team in 2012, representing the United States in the Men's Youth 4+, which placed ninth at the Junior World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Over four years at Brown University, Coach Brown was a two-time Head of the Charles champion and course record holder. He consistently competed at the IRA National Championships and secured a second-place finish in the Men's 4+. His college career culminated with an IRA All-Academic team spot in 2017.

The Rangers began the 2023 season at the Head of the Oklahoma, placing sixth in the anticipated night sprints event and the regatta's traditional youth 8+ event. Coach Brown and the Rangers will continue the fall campaign at the Pumpkinhead Regatta on Oct. 28.
