Jesuit Dallas suffered a pair of setbacks on the final day of the 2023 Frisco Tournament of Champions, dropping a 3-2 decision to Frisco Liberty before a 9-7 loss to Frisco Lone Star in the tournament finale.
In the 10 a.m. game against Liberty, freshman
James Jorgensen shot a single up the middle that was mishandled by the Red Hawks' center fielder, allowing freshman Taylor Haddock to give Jesuit an early, 1-0 lead in the second inning. Liberty scored runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 3-1 lead, but the Rangers closed the gap with a run in the third after senior
Weston Okamoto was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing pinch runner
Fulton Lawrence to score.
Jorgensen would finish the game 3-for-3 from the plate, collecting two singles and a double. Haddock would secure Jesuit's fourth and final hit of the ballgame while sophomore
Jake Fults finished the bout with two walks and a stolen base. Senior
Jack Barr threw the complete game on the mound, striking out six batters and allowing two earned runs on five hits.
The Rangers would score seven runs on eight hits against Lone Star, with Fults driving in three runs to lead the team. Junior
Cameron Davis and senior
Nick Barber secured three hits apiece in the first and second spot of the batting order, respectively, as Barber would finish the bout with two RBI. Jorgensen tacked on another RBI to conclude a busy Saturday while senior
Dominic Migliore drove in a run on a bases loaded walk.
Jesuit Dallas trailed Lone Star, 9-4, heading into the seventh and attempted a comeback, scoring three runs in the frame and putting the go-ahead run on first with two outs in the inning, but Lone Star was able to record the final out and preserve the win.
The Rangers will now turn their attention to district play as the Blue and Gold will begin District 7-6A competition on Tuesday, March 14 against J.J. Pearce. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Wright Field, and the season series will conclude on Thursday, March 16 at J.J. Pearce H.S.
