Freshman
Braxton Barber went 2-for-3 with two RBI from the lead-off spot, and sophomore
Dillon Brandt worked his way out of a seventh-inning jam to help Jesuit Dallas clinch a 5-4 win over Nimitz on Saturday at Nimitz H.S. With the victory, Jesuit improves to 10-1 in District 7-6A play and 16-9-4 overall, and will return to Wright Field on a 10-game district winning streak.
In addition to Barber's runs, seniors
Dominic Migliore,
Jack Strong and junior
Tristen Bird drove in one run apiece. Bird went 3-for-4 to lead the team in hitting, closing a stellar week that saw Bird rack up a .667 batting average (6-for-9) with two doubles, a triple and nine RBI. Micliore scored two runs for the Rangers, while freshman
James Jorgensen crossed the plate one and added a double to go along with a two-inning start on the mound. Jorgensen struck out four batters over his two-inning start, allowing one run on three hits. Junior
Joe Allen entered in relief, striking out one over two innings before senior
Jack Barr took over in the fourth, striking out two over three innings and allowing two runs on five hits.
In the seventh inning, Nimitz rallied to cut the Jesuit lead to two, and had the winning run on first base with no outs in the inning. Brandt, who threw earlier in the week and earned a win against Berkner, entered in relief and struck out two of the three batters he faced. Nimitz would score a run on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to one, but Brandt would end the rally with a game-ending strikeout to secure his first save of the season.
Jesuit will return to Wright Fiedld on Tuedsay, when the Rangers host Nimitz to close the season series between the two teams. The Rangers will then host MacArthur for senior night on Friday, April 21. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 7 p.m.
