Home runs in the fifth and sixth inning set the stage for a game-ending, walk-off double for J.J. Pearce as the Mustangs clinched the top seed in District 7-6A by defeating Jesuit, 5-4, on Saturday at Scotland Yard. Jesuit Dallas will move into the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region I-6A Bi-District Round as the No. 2 seed out of District 7-6A, where the Rangers will battle Arlington Lamar in a three-game series set to start on Thursday, May 4.
Sophomore
Jake Fults went 2-for-3 from the plate with one RBI, while junior
Tristen Bird and sophomore
Fulton Lawrence drove in one run apiece. Additional hits were recorded by senior
Nick Barber and freshman
James Jorgensen, who launched a double for Jesuit. On the mound, sophomore
Dillon Brandt threw 6.1 innings, striking out four batters.
Jesuit will match-up against a Lamar team that finished the regular season with a 19-13 record and posted an 8-4 mark in District 8-6A, besting South Grand Prairie by one game to secure the third seed in district play. Thursday will mark the first time that Jesuit and Lamar have met on the baseball diamond since the beginning Jesuit's tenure in the UIL, and the Rangers are aiming to clinch the ninth consecutive bi-district championship.
