Jesuit Dallas soccer won its fourth consecutive Jesuit-Meintser Soccer Invitational championship in dramatic fashion, defeating Plano in penalty kicks on January 6 at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers withstood the Wildcats, 5-4, in penalties to secure the championship.
Junior Clyde Araiza scored his second goal of the tournament, breaking a scoreless tie at halftime with a tally in the 48th minute. Junior Noah McGough assisted on the goal, which gave the Rangers the 1-0 advantage. Plano would score in the 66th minute to send the match into penalty kicks. Noah McGough scored the first penalty, followed by a successful try by junior Octavio Monjaras. Senior goalkeeper Reid McMillan saved Plano's second penalty attempt to give the Rangers the advantage.
Seniors Reese Garner and Matthew Sucato each secured successful penalty attempts, putting the Rangers on the precipice of the tournament championship. Senior Jack Bradshaw clinched the victory for the Rangers, putting home the team's fifth penalty attempt. McMillan would additionally log a save in the first half. Jesuit Dallas out-shot Plano, 8-2, in the contest, while the Rangers earned three corner kicks while holding the Wildcats without a corner kick attempt.
Jesuit will immediately jump into district play on Tuesday, Jan. 9 as the Rangers will travel south on the Dallas North Tollway to battle Highland Park. The first Tollway Tussle matchup between the Rangers and Scots will kick off at 7:15 p.m. at Highlander Stadium.
