Jesuit Sweeps Mansfield Lake Ridge, Duncanville to Remain Unbeaten

Jesuit closed out an immensely successful first week of the 2024 season, capping off a 6-0 run at the Duncanville Panther Invitational with a pair of victories on Saturday at Duncanville H.S. The Rangers upended Mansfield Lake Ridge, 8-4, before closing out the tournament with a 5-4 win over host Duncanville. The Rangers upset state-ranked Mansfield Lake Ridge, who entered the 2024 season ranked seventh in the state according to TXHighSchoolBaseball.com.

Senior Joe Allen earned the win in his first start of 2024, striking out nine batters and only allowing one run on five hits and one walk over six innings. Senior Will Whitehead and junior Jake Fults finished out the win, with Fults striking out the two batters he faced to lock down the victory. At the plate, junior E'Mar Fleming II went 1-for-3 with two RBI while sophomores Braxton Barber, Taylor Haddock, James Jorgensen and Charlie Wilson scattered two hits apiece. Haddock and junior Barrett Kasprowicz each scored twice to help pace the Rangers, as Kasprowicz added three stolen bases.

Against Duncanville, senior Jaxx Rigelsky struck out nine over six innings of work en route to picking up the win. Junior Brayden Montes, who appeared on Saturday against North Forney, threw the seventh inning against the Panthers, holding Duncanville without a hit and logging a strikeout en route to earning his first win of the year. Jesuit scored three unanswered runs to start the contest, led by sophomore Shane Parker, who went 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Wilson, Kasprowicz and senior Nathan Robles each drove in a run, including a game-tying hit by Robles in the top of the sixth that knotted the game at 4-4. In the seventh, a bunt by Barber was misplayed, allowing Parker to score for the go-ahead run.

Jesuit will make its 2024 home debut on Thursday, Feb. 29, as the Rangers begin the 2024 Grand Slam Invitational. Day one of the three-day tournament will pit the Rangers against Anna at 1 p.m, followed by a matchup against Midlothian Heritage at 6 p.m.
